Goldie was born on June 26th, 1951 in Midland, Texas, and died on May 14th, 2001. He was a veteran of the US Navy. He got into electrical work & later worked as a reserve Police Officer in Clear Lake shores & then in Taylor Lake Village until 1978.
He worked for Cut N Shoot Marshals Office for about 5 years. In that time he got quite a reputation for getting more DWI's than anyone thought possible for just a 4 mile stretch of road. While going through treatment He received an award from MADD for all the drunks he'd taken off the road. I think it was 118 in 10 months.
Walter loved being in police work. His biggest regret was not getting in earlier to work for DPS. At least in the end he was able to be working for the State which gave him a lot of pride. He really loved Texas. Some other factsabout Goldie is he bought his first Harley in 85, an 81 Wide glide. We had to sell it when he broke his ankle playing softball in cowboy boots. After the surgery & screws his leg bothered him a lot for a while so he sold it. He and Macie had 3 children, 2 girls & finally a boy. They moved to Conroe after living in Tennessee. After living in Tennessee Goldie and Macie moved to Texas. Goldie bought his last bike in 2000 & was able to enjoy it for 6 months before God told him he was having entirely too much fun down here & he needed him up there. I know there's a lot left out but you have to understand this is Walter we're talking about here. He was always so busy.
In 1997' Goldie went through cancer treatment for his throat. ( if you have anyone close to you that dips, kick their butt. Going through what Walter went through wasn't pretty.) He also went through FBI sniper school. He loved to shoot. Him & BooBoo (Nolan) were once hit by a train in Conroe while running hot to a scene.
(Later determined not their fault.) He liked to train dogs. He worked with Conroe PD's dogs in obedience & tracking.
When he was going through treatment he said “I’m going to beat this. I’m going to fool everyone & die of a heart attack” & he did. He had been cancer free for 4 years when he died. He usually did what he set out to do.
Most of all He loved His family.
Any male that came in our back door with a hat on had to remove it out respect to me. Many boys heard "You're head cold boy?"
There'll never be anyone else like Him.
